Looking for a gynecomastia surgery?

30–50% of men suffer from gynecomastia (enlargement of male breast). It can cause psychological discomfort and loss of self-esteem. Gynecomastia usually cannot be helped by neither sports nor any diet. Hence, gynecomastia surgery is needed.

What is gynecomastia

There are several potential causes for the development of gynecomastia (the enlargement of glandular and/or breasts’ fat tissue in males). For example, hormone imbalance, pathological reasons (malfunction of testicular, thyroid, liver or kidney, in the presence of tumours etc.) or usage of certain medicine. Statistically, 30 to 50% of males suffer from this disorder (to some extent). In most cases the breast ultrasound is used for the examination of the patient and diagnosis. To be sure, the patient’s complaints are taken into consideration as well.

The surgery is not recommended for the patients under 18, because gynecomastia might disappear naturally following puberty.

Gynecomastia classification

Gynecomastia abroad might be classified into 3 degrees based on the amount of excess fat in the breasts’ area and the position of the gland. When the degree is clear, a relevant treatment can be chosen:

  • 1st degree gynecomastia – necessitates a removal of glandular tissue
  • 2nd degree gynecomastia – liposuction from the breast area and removal of glandular tissue
  • 3rd degree gynecomastia – liposuction from the breast area with removal of glandular tissue + removal of excess skin from the area

After the surgery

Patients are discharged from the clinic on the following day after gynecomastia surgery. The required stay in Lithuania is 5 days.

The scars are, normally, minimal and barely visible. A special band will have to be worn for 3-4 weeks. While the patient is able to return to all the daily activities in 4-6 weeks.

It usually takes 2 months before the patient can enjoy the final result of the surgery: nicely shaped chest and better bodylines, as well as increased self-confidence.

As with every surgical procedure there are possible complications, such as bruising, inverted nipples, more significant scarring and uneven breast contours (caused by insufficient liposuction).
