Ear surgery abroad

Otoplasty (ear surgery abroad) is a procedure to reshape the ear. For example, treat the ears that seem too large or protruding.

For adults the procedure is carried out under local anesthesia. Yet, general anaesthesia can also be used. Otoplasty takes 1-2 hours to complete. In most of the cases hospitalisation is not required. The recommended stay in Lithuania is 5 days following the surgery.

Ear surgery abroad goes as following:

  • the back side of the ear shell is cut;
  • the ear shell cartilage is then weakened so that it can be folded;
  • sometimes the excess skin or the cartilage is removed;
  • once the surgery is complete, head bandages are applied.

When the bandages are taken off, the patient must wear a headband during sleep for a few weeks. This keeps the stitches from pulling out.

As will all surgeries, there will be some initial swelling (80% of it will fade away in 6 months). Yet, within 2-3 weeks your ears will look remarkably better (the new shape will be already visible).

Possible complications: infection is rare and, normally, treated with antibiotics. On rare occasions, there might be bleeding, small irregularities, visible scars, asymmetry, and temporar sensibility loss. Swelling and bruising gradually fade away (in several weeks).

prices given below are exact (without hidden costs). Many other clinics increase their initial prices.

FAQs about ear surgery abroad

Will I look like myself after surgery?

Many of our former patients tell that they have received similar remarks from their friends/colleagues (upon returning back home): “Did you change your hair?, “You look great!” or “Have you been on holidays?”.

Our surgeons seek to retain your unique beauty; and make the results look as natural as possible. To be sure, the change may be significant to you, but it’s not uncommon that others do not really notice that yours ears have changed.

What about the length of the recovery period & when will I be able to fly back home?

It is advised to stay in Lithuania for 5 days following the surgery.

As will all surgeries, there will be some initial swelling (80% of it will fade away in 6 months). Yet, within 2-3 weeks your ears will look remarkably better (the new shape will be already visible).

What about the possible complications and what if something goes wrong?

Possible complications: infection is rare and, normally, treated with antibiotics. On rare occasions, there might be bleeding, small irregularities, visible scars, asymmetry, and temporar sensibility loss. Swelling and bruising gradually fade away (in several weeks).

While still in Lithuania: in case you are feeling unwell or there is anything abnormal, you will be immediately checked upon by the medical personnel. Should there be a need for a follow-up procedure, it would be carried out for you free of charge.

Complication in the later stages of the recovery is even less likely and (most of the time) not an emergency. If they happen, our surgeon would consult you online and explain the steps to take.
